Principal's Message

Dear Killybrooke Elementary School Parents,

Welcome to Killybrooke School!

At Killybrooke School, we have embraced the “No Excuses University” model, with a culture of universal achievement and exceptional systems to support the achievement of every child. This is a schoolwide commitment that:

  • Every child will be proficient in reading, writing, and math;
  • Every child will be challenged with enriching learning opportunities;
  • Helping children develop strong character is important;
  • Teachers use assessment to guide next steps in instruction; and
  • Teachers collaborate to plan and provide instruction to maximize student success.

 We work diligently to incorporate the message that students at Killybrooke are college-bound.  Every classroom has adopted a university and proudly displays its flag and a sign to remind the children of the year that their class will graduate from a four-year university.  We start each day with the flag salute and the Killybrooke cheer to reinforce the message that “Killybrooke is College-bound”.  We are very proud of our 1:1 Chromebook program for our 2nd-6th grade students to equip them with technology to research, collaborate, and create.

We are proud to be a 2016 California Gold Ribbon School and earned the Title I Academic Achievement Award.

 At Killybrooke, we help all students develop and demonstrate positive character traits (responsibility, respect, kindness, charity, courage, honesty, confidence, fairness, determination, and gratitude) as a way to positively influence their success in school and build habits that will influence their lifelong success as adults.

 In addition to achieving academic success in core content areas in every classroom, we believe our students should have access to a wide variety of enrichment opportunities to enhance their learning and development.  Our students have many opportunities for enrichment activities during the school day and through after-school programs.  Special enrichment activities during the school day include: Science-related Field Trips, Walk Through History, Innovative Nutrition Education Events, Student Council, and Meet the Masters.  After-school activities include: Robotics Club, Ranch Program, Pilot Cup Soccer, and more.  Many of our enrichment activities are made possible through the generosity of our Killybrooke Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and other community organizations (including Pacific Chorale Academy).

 In close partnership with our active Killybrooke PTA, we host many family involvement events designed to strengthen the bond between school and family through engaging parent-child activities.

 We value communication with you and have set up procedures to ensure that effective communication is ongoing between school and home. If you need to contact or meet with me, please call the office at 714-424-7945 and speak with Cindy Ridens, Administrative Assistant. She will be happy to arrange a time for us to speak on the phone or in person.  I am also usually available before school and at dismissal to answer any questions or concerns. You are also welcome to contact me via e-mail at lhoggard@nmusd.us. We realize the importance of maintaining a clear line of communication between school and home and are committed to accomplishing this goal.

 It is going to be an amazing year of learning for every student at Killybrooke.  Thank you for your ongoing support of our school. We hope you will visit often!

Sincerely,

Lorie Hoggard, Ed.D.
