Principal's Message

Dear Killybrooke Elementary School Families,
Killybrooke, home of the Colts, is preparing for an incredible 2026 to 2027 school year. With high academic expectations, engaging learning experiences, a welcoming culture, and an exceptional team dedicated to supporting every student, we are excited to continue the tradition of excellence that defines Killybrooke.
This year's theme, "Climbing to New Heights: Empowered Minds. Elevated Learning," reflects our belief that every student can grow, persevere, and achieve extraordinary things. Just like climbing a mountain, learning requires courage, determination, collaboration, and a willingness to embrace challenges. Together, we will encourage every Colt to reach new heights academically, socially, and personally.
Academic achievement, social emotional well being, and strong character development are the foundation of student success. By coming to school each day ready to learn, working collaboratively with peers and staff, and setting meaningful goals, our students will continue to rise to new challenges. At Killybrooke, we believe every child has limitless potential, and our role is to provide the support, opportunities, and encouragement needed to help them thrive.
Our schoolwide commitment to AVID College and Career Readiness continues to play a central role in supporting students on their journey. Through AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, we foster a culture of high expectations and equip students with the skills, strategies, and mindsets needed for long term success. This includes:
-
Proficiency in reading, writing, and math for every child
-
Enriching learning opportunities and support for all learners
-
Positive social-emotional development and strong character building
-
Structured organization that is cohesive across grade levels
-
Purposeful use of assessments to drive instruction
-
Collaborative planning to ensure every student succeeds
We continue to promote the message that Killybrooke students are prepared for college, career, and life. Each classroom partners with a university and proudly displays its flag to help students envision a variety of future pathways, including universities, community colleges, trade schools, military service, and careers yet to be imagined.
Killybrooke is proud to be an award winning school. We were recognized as a California PBIS Platinum Medal School in 2023 and a California PBIS Gold Medal School in 2025, reflecting our ongoing commitment to creating a positive, supportive school climate. We are also proud to be a 2020 California Distinguished School and a ten time Honor Roll School since 2008. These honors reflect our unwavering belief that every student can and will achieve.
Just as important as academics is the development of each child's character. Our dedicated team helps students build essential life skills and values including proactivity, goal setting, kindness, empathy, courage, honesty, gratitude, mindfulness, and reflection. These traits empower our students to become leaders in learning and in life.
We offer a variety of enrichment opportunities to deepen learning and foster meaningful connections beyond the core curriculum, including Student Government, Best Buddies, theater, student leadership opportunities, visual and performing arts experiences, and additional programs through our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. Offerings may vary each year based on student interest and community partnerships. Many of these opportunities are made possible through the support of our outstanding Parent Teacher Association, which helps strengthen the connection between school and home through family events and memorable student experiences.
Student safety and learning remain our highest priorities. We value strong partnerships and open communication between school and home. If you need assistance or would like to connect, please contact our school office at 714 424 7945 or email me directly or our Administrative Assistant, Vicki DuVal, to schedule a time to meet with me.
This will be a year of growth, discovery, and achievement at Killybrooke. When students, staff, and families work together, there is no limit to the heights we can reach.
Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you around campus and celebrating all that our Colts will accomplish this year.
Sincerely,
Laura Taylor
Principal
