Principal's Message
Dear Killybrooke Elementary School Families,
Killybrooke, home of the Colts, is gearing up for an incredible 24-25 school year. With high academic standards, a focus on student engagement, a welcoming culture, and a top-notch team dedicated to supporting our students, we will continue the pattern of excellence that Killybrooke is known for. Inspired by our students’ interests, our theme for the year is "Game On - Level Up!" We will encourage students, parents, and staff to “Level Up” our academics, well-being, and social skills, recognizing that these components are critical to student success. By actively engaging in their education and understanding the value of collaboration, our students will be empowered to reach their potential. We want each of our students to embrace the idea that “We are in control of our future” and therefore must participate in striving for positive outcomes. Our scholars are kind, capable, and significant contributors to the success of our Killybrooke community. We can all "Level Up" by working as a team, celebrating others' successes, and intentionally bringing positivity to campus each day.
One way we empower our students is through a longstanding tradition of high expectations at Killybrooke. Since adopting the “No Excuses University” model in 2007, we have promoted a culture of universal achievement and exceptional support systems. Though we have transitioned to a partnership with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), our commitment remains the same. This schoolwide commitment includes:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and math for every child;
- Enriching learning opportunities for every child;
- Positive social-emotional development and strong character building;
- Using assessments to guide instruction; and
- Collaborative planning among teachers to maximize student success.
We diligently promote the message that Killybrooke students are college and career-ready, prepared for Enrollment, Employment, or Enlistment. Every classroom adopts a university and displays its flag to inspire students to pursue various educational pathways, including four-year universities, community colleges, and technical schools. Our 1:1 Chromebook program equips students with essential technology skills for their futures.
Killybrooke is an award-winning school. In 2023, we were named a CA PBIS Platinum Medal School, reflecting our commitment to providing clear, consistent behavioral support and intervention. We are also proud to be a 2020 California Distinguished School and a high-performing Honor Roll School recognized nine times since 2008. Our school wide systems focus on meeting achievement goals for all students, embodying the belief that our students can and will achieve.
Equally important is the social-emotional development of our students. Our talented and caring staff is dedicated to ensuring every child's success in a safe, positive environment. At Killybrooke, we help students develop positive character traits such as Proactivity, Goal-Driven, Kindness, Empathy, Courage, Honesty/Integrity, Gratitude, Mindfulness, and Reflection. These traits positively influence their school success and lifelong habits.
In addition to academic success in core content areas, we provide a wide variety of enrichment opportunities to enhance learning and development. Many enrichment activities are made possible through our generous Killybrooke Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). In partnership with our active PTA, we host numerous family involvement events to strengthen the school-family connection through engaging parent-child activities.
Student safety and learning are our top priorities. We value communication with you and have set up procedures to ensure ongoing effective communication between school and home. If you need to contact me, please email or call the office at 714-424-7945 to arrange a time to speak with me or our Administrative Assistant, Lina Tran.
It is going to be an amazing year of learning for every student at Killybrooke. With our dynamic team and supportive parent community working together for our Colts, we are sure to make this year a positive experience for all. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you around our campus!
Sincerely,
Laura Taylor (formerly Sosa)
